Cabinet refinishing

Cabinet refinishing is an umbrella term that simply implies that old, worn-out cabinets will be redone and made to look brand new. Depending on your personal desires, we can paint them or stain them (if they are made out of solid wood). And in case you dislike the style of your cabinets, we can even take all the doors and faces off and put new ones up.

More affordable, just as effective

Initially, most people look for a complete cabinet replacement, and only once they see the hefty price tag do they consider other options like refacing. This is sad to us because we know that cabinet refacing shouldn't be the second option. It is a great way to completely change the look and feel of your cabinets without going through the hustle of ripping the cabinets out and making a hundred choices about the new layout and style.

With cabinet facing, modernizing the way your kitchen looks and improving your laundry room or bathrooms is a quick and simple process. Marietta Cabinet Painting team is trained and used to complete the whole process within days, and we also take pride in leaving no mess behind. Forget about cleaning oil stains off your floor and vacuuming leftover sawdust. Once we are done with our work, your new space can be utilized right away.

Our process

The first step is to take a look at your cabinets and see what shape they are in. Occasionally we come across heavily damaged wood that simply cannot be restored. In these cases, we suggest you either remodel all your cabinets or at least replace the damaged ones with matching new ones.

The next step, assuming that your cabinets are in good shape, is to clean them thoroughly, removing any grime, oils, or waxes that might have built up over the years. We will also strip the wood of any existing paints and sand-down any imperfections we might come across. At this stage, we will also know if your hinges need replacing, and we will have the new hardware ready for installation.

After we've sanded everything, it is time to apply the primer to ensures that your cabinets are smooth and flawless once the paint is on them. Primer also bonds paint to the wood, so it doesn't flake and peel off. If you've experienced this before, just know that flaking is due to bad wood preparation. If the surface isn't rough enough and primed, the paint just won't stick to it, and you will have to redo your cabinets sooner rather than later.

The last step is to paint or stain all of the surfaces and for us to clean up after we're done putting everything back in its place. Once we're finished, you can move in and start using your renewed cabinets right away.

Possible limitations

Every once in a while, we come across a client who's cabinets are so damaged that there is simply no point in refinishing them. This can be due to prolonged water exposure where cabinets have soaked it all up, and wood cannot be helped. Or in other cases, it is due to termite or wasp damage where there are large gouges in the wood that cannot be sanded away. If this is the case for you, where big pieces of wood simply can't be saved, we can replace those cabinets completely and refinish the rest.
